Hi Guys,
Welcome to Worldly Views with Becca. Today we’ll be talking about how to hire your first employee or intern.
The first thing that you want to do is make sure that you have a process. I created a four-step process for hiring my first intern.
Step one was to do a phone interview. Now phone interviews are pretty much just to help the interviewee learn more about the company. They are 10 to 20 minutes long and they have very basic questions.
Step two is an in-person interview. The best thing you can do is to create a template that is a grading form for you. When I was interviewing Sonnet, my current intern, she said something that really stood out. She said to me “deadlines are there for a reason”. That really spoke to me because I thought “Wow, that means you’re organized, you are on time, and you care about the organization.
Step three is to do a practice evaluation. Basically something that the intern or employee would be doing in their day-to-day job. This is a really good indication of writing skills and to see how their critical thinking will go into their job.
Step 4 is references. I think references are really powerful. Calling to ask questions like, “Would you rehire this person?”
So those are my tips for interviewing new candidates. Thanks for watching Worldly Views with Becca. We’ll be back soon with a new episode. Keep watching and please subscribe to Worldly Strategies on YouTube. Thank you! Bye!
